Public Welcome to Attend Free 2024 Spring Band Concert at Mary

BISMARCK, ND 鈥 On Sunday, March 17, the 男人藏精阁 Concert Band will perform its annual Spring Concert at 3 p.m. in Luman Vitae University Center鈥檚 (LVUC) Founders Hall, on campus.
Dennis Gowen, professor of Music and director of Bands and High Brass at Mary, says the students are eagerly looking forward to their annual spring presentation.
鈥淥ur spring concert falls on St. Patrick鈥檚 Day once again,鈥 said Gowen, 鈥渁nd we鈥檙e excited to share a couple great tributes to the Irish culture, as well as other gems, with our faithful audience.鈥
The performance will open with 鈥淜irkpatrick Fanfare鈥 by Andrew Boysen. And later on, the ensemble lets loose with 鈥淩iverdance,鈥 a classic nod to the Irish dance phenomenon written by Bill Whelan and arranged for band by Johan de Meij.
鈥淓very time I hand out this fantastic work, the students are immediately enthralled,鈥 continued Gowen. Rebekah Libby, freshman vocal performance major from Livermore, CA, will join the band in singing the opening movement 鈥楥loudsong.鈥欌
Other works on the program include 鈥淧as Redoubl茅鈥 by Camille Saint-Sa毛ns, and 鈥淪uite in Eb鈥 by Gustav Holst. 鈥淭he Holst Suite is among the most timeless works in our young history of original repertoire for the wind band,鈥 added Gowen. 鈥淣umerous students had recently asked to rehearse and perform the Suite as part of their time here at Mary. How do you say 鈥榥o鈥 to a request like that?鈥
The concert will also feature two student conductors and a student composer. 鈥淲e鈥檙e fortunate to have three student conductors enrolled in independent conducting lessons this semester,鈥 remarked Gowen. 鈥淭wo will conduct works during our spring concert, and one at graduation this year.鈥
Stephen Talbot, trumpeter and senior music major from Carol Stream, IL, will conduct a premiere of his own recent composition, 鈥淧ray, Hope, and Don鈥檛 Worry.鈥 And Christopher Dill, from St. Paul, MN, will conduct 鈥淲ayfaring Stranger鈥 by Christopher Nelson.
The concert is free and open to the public. Come join the 男人藏精阁 Band for a spectacular array of outstanding musical works on Sunday, March 17, at 3 p.m.
