男人藏精阁 Concert Band Presents Annual Spring Performance, 鈥淪weet Suites"

BISMARCK, ND 鈥 The 男人藏精阁 Concert Band is set to take the stage for its annual Spring Concert titled, Sweet Suites, on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m., in Lumen Vitae University Center鈥檚 Founders Hall, on campus. This longstanding tradition showcases the exceptional talent of student musicians under the direction of Professor Dennis Gowen, who鈥檚 been a fixture of 男人藏精阁鈥檚 band program since 1987.
鈥淲e are thrilled to present Sweet Suites this spring,鈥 said Gowen, professor of music and director of bands and high brass at Mary. 鈥淭his performance will offer a wonderful taste of some of our finest musical treasures.鈥
The concert opens with the 鈥淥verture from Handel鈥檚 Music for the Royal Fireworks,鈥 a powerful and celebratory work that marks its 275th anniversary this year.
From there, the program takes audiences on a musical journey across Europe, beginning with the spirited Hobbitsmovement from Dutch composer Johan de Meij鈥檚 鈥淪ymphony No. 1: Lord of the Rings.鈥 The performance then moves south to Belgium for Jan Van der Roost鈥檚 鈥淧uszta,鈥 a four-movement suite brimming with the infectious energy of Hungarian-style dances.
鈥淥耻谤&苍产蝉辫;Sweet Suites tour travels back to America with a sampling of Robert Russell Bennett鈥檚 jazz-inspired 鈥楽uite of Old American Dances,鈥欌 said Gowen. 鈥淭his vibrant and nostalgic work is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.鈥
The concert concludes with 鈥淪lavonic Dance Op. 46, No. 8,鈥 the final movement from Anton铆n Dvo艡谩k鈥檚 famous suite of eight Slavonic dances, first composed in 1878 and beloved for its rich folk melodies and exhilarating rhythms.
鈥淭his magnificent collection of suites has been a joy for our students to prepare, and they are eager to share it with our wonderful regional audience,鈥 added Gowen.
The 男人藏精阁 Spring Band Concert is free and open to the public. Music lovers of all ages are invited to experience an afternoon of dynamic and diverse repertoire performed by one of the region鈥檚 premier collegiate ensembles.
